Animals with the Helping Paws that Serve People ~ Kwentology

How Does a Search Dog Find a Missing Person?

You've probably heard the old saying that dogs are human's bestfriend. For members of police force, search and rescue dogs are the best of the best. Search and rescue (SAR) canines are used to find people lost in the woods or burried under the rubble of collapsed buildings. SAR dogs are especially trained to detect human scent. They've found people burried 206 feet under snow and 40 feet underwater.
The reason: A dog's nose is 10,000 times more sensitive than a human's.

SAR dogs go anywhere to help find people. These daring, brave canines are really top dogs!

Air-scent Dogs

These dogs are trained to pick up the scent of a human. People give off millions of tiny particles, including skin cells, bacteria, and sweat. Dogs can detect these particles in the air and on the ground. Air-scent dogs, such as bloodhounds, roam free in large areas to find a human scent and lead its handler to the rescue.

These dogs search for particular person. The dog is given an object that has the person's scent, such as a comb or a piece of clothing. Then, the dog sniffs out that particular scent on the ground. The scent can stick to grass, branches, and other objects.

Avalanche Dogs

Some SAR dogs are trained to find people burried under snow. When oils on a person's skin warm up, their scent rises right up through the snow. An avalanche dog can detect the scent above the surface of the snow and alert rescuers.

They are trained to find human scent like the other SAR dogs. But they must be able to move in and around rubble from collapsed building and other dangerous ground. The dogs can't be afraid of splinters of wood, sharp points of steel, and broken glass. Dust and noise don't bother these incredible canines.

Water Search

Some dogs sniff out humans who are in—or under—water. A person who drowns leaves cells floating on the surface of the water. The victim also gives off gases that rise to the surface. A dog can detect those smells along the shore, while in a boat, or swimming in water.
SAR dogs must be trainable, able to get in and out of tight spots, have great energy, and get along with people and other dogs. They are usually large breeds, such as German shepherds, dobermans, rottweilers, golden retrievers, giant schnauzers, and labradors.
To the Rescue

Dog's aren't the only animals that give humans a helping hand, er, paw. Here are few other critters that serve people.

  • Miniature Horses

They have been used as guide animals for blind people and to pull wheelchairs.

  • Capuchin Monkeys

These monkeys can act as the hands for people in wheelchairs or who can't get around easily. The monkeys are quick learners and can help a human for 25 to 30 years. The monkeys can use their hands to turn doorknobs or pages of a book.

  • Cats

Cats, as well as dogs, are used as pet therapy for people in hospitals and nursing homes. Petting an animal can make people feel better and can lower their blood pressure.

The things to consider when replacing a faulty or a leaking kitchen
tap are to hire a plumber to replace and swap the
old kitchen tap for the new kitchen tap, then followed by the time
and inconvenient to arrange for buying and replacing
the tap. Stainless steel cutlery will withstand humidity and acids that is come into contact with from normal use.
