History: The First Ever Raincoat ~ Kwentology

It was October 12, 1823 when the raincoat was commercialized in Scotland and the first one was invented by Charles Macintosh (1766-1843). The raincoats were 100 percent waterproof and made of rubberized cotton.

Macintosh experimented with naphtha, a light object made of coal tar. Until he discovers that the Indian rubber can dissolve in naphtha.

To make the first ever raincoat, Macintosh placed a rubber solution on side of woolen cloth, before he add another layer of woolen cloth.
