A complex store will be operating along the compound of 59-year-old Manila Zoo to carry out renovation. This is stated in the contract between the city government officials and the Metropolitan Manila Zoo and Botanical Park, Inc. The agreement is currently under the public hearing and waiting for its final approval from the city council.
The 25-year contract was participated by the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden representative, Edwin B. Lim; Mayor Joseph Estrada; Secretary to the Mayor Edward Serapio; and City Accountant Rosario K.
Project dubbed as "Planas", a sports facility and events center, a "neighborhood shopping complex or community center" will serves countless of purpose such as consolidated retail outlets, interconnected stores, convenience stores and parking facilities.
Project site will cover the six acres of Quirino Avenue, Mabini Street and Adriatico Street.
Manila Zoo Director Albert De Chavez clarified that this is not a shopping mall, instead rows of small stalls selling food, drinks and other items which are essential to facilitate during the important events like ball games or animal shows.
