Filipinos in Hong Kong wage against the OEC as requirement for every OFWs. The group held together at the Philippine Overseas Labor Office on Sunday to protest the long lines of overseas Filipino workers have to bear just to secure their overseas employment certificate (OEC).
Pro-migrant group is concern with the frustrating long line just to process the OEC. According to Vicky Casia-Cabantac, chairperson of the Migrante Sectoral Party, the OEC serves no purpose, it is a useless document the government implemented just to generate revenues. She added that passport and employment contract is enough. What the government did is like a fund-raising targeting all the overseas Filipino workers.
The EOC should be submitted by every OFW before departing Philippines to their employment destination abroad. Some OFW are now spending Christmas with their loveones in the Philippines, the POLO have all these important document.
What OFW wants is to go home to have time with their family. Due to this OEC, they have to spend the entire day and have to keep on returning just to complete the process of getting the unnecessary document.
The "Balik-Manggagawa (BM) Online" has rolled out by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) to allow a web-based system to secure the OEC.
